SOUTHERN STAGE NOTES.
WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON, Sept. 24. The Plimmer-Denniston Dramatic Company, after a successful season in the South Island, opened its North Island tour at the Opera House last evening with the famous four-act comedy drama “Nobody’s Daughter.” The theatre was packed to the doors with an audience that gave both play and the brilliant coterie of artistes that •interpret it a most enthusiastic reception. -• The close interest with which the piece was followed throughout the whole of the four acts culminated in quite a burst of enthusiasm, and it was not until the curtain had been raised several times that the audience calmed down.
“Nobody’s Daughter” is not addressed to extremists, but to the kindly race of men and women who are interested in the faults and follies and victories of their kind. It is a play for men and women with intelligence and a sense of life. Humanity at heart hates a lie, though it finds it difficult to live up to that hatred at all times, and this play is conspicuously outspoken, though The bounds of good taste are carefully observed, and strong moral intention is the end of the whole thing. It teems with dramatic interest and the effects are brought about by an artistic arrangement of such situations. It is in fact an excellent type of the best class of modern plays where one sees life without dull photographic exactitude. It not only shows good knowledge of stage craft but sends one away with a keener and cleaner interest in humanity.
The Wellington Professional Orchestra gave another of its successful concerts in the Town Hall on Sunday evening. The principal items on the programme were the march “Damnation de Faust,” the overture “Mignon”
