fpO STAND THE SEASON. ACHILLES (IMP.) 13. (1899). ACHILLES, by Medallion—-Nereid, by Goldsborough, is a beautifully proportioned chestnut horse, standing slightly over sixteen hands. He won over £9OOO in stake money, and that without being “engaged” as a two or three-year-old, when ne was practically invincible. He proved himself a champion in each of the six seasons he raced, retains all his courage, and he has probably the cleanest set of legs in New Zealand to-day. He won three Jubliee Cups, two Electric Plates, two C.J.C. Challenges, two North Island Challenges, three Jackson Stakes, the Juvenile Plate, Middle Park Plate (an exceptionally brilliant performance—Machine Gun, 2yrs, had the maiden allowance, and carried 7.2, Achilles, 3yrs, with full Penalties, carried 9.10). Manawatu Stakes, Hawke’s Bay Stakes, A.R.C. Century Stakes, Wanganui Guineas, Wellington Stakes, Wellington Cup, etc. In fact, no horse in New Zealand performed like him. He has never been unduly taxed, and His constitution is unimpaired. He comes of Bruce Lowe’s No. 13 family, whence spring Highflyer, Albert Victor, George Frederick, Orlando, Beadsman, Mendicant, Shotover, etc., while the same family is represented in these colonies by those'successful sires Nordenfeldt, Goldsborough, Robinson Crusoe, Martini-Henry, etc. BEZONIAN (IMP.) 1. BAY HORSE (half brother to Cicero—Derby, Newmarket Stakes, July Stakes, etc.); bred in England in 1904 by Lord Rosebery, by Velasquez (winner of Prince of Wales’ Stakes of 10,000sovs, Champion Stakes, etc., and second in 2000 Guineas and Derby to Galtee More, and half brother to Sir Visto—Derby and St. Leger—and to Bona Vista —2000 Guineas, and sire of Cyllene), from Gas (three-quarter sister to Ladas —2000 Guineas and Derby —and to Chelandry—looo Guineas, and second in Leger, and dam of Neil Gow —2OOO Guineas), by Ayrshire (2000 Guineas, Derby and Eclipse Stakes), from Illuminata (half sister to Footlight, grand-dam of Flair, 1000 Guineas), by Rosicrucian (unbeaten), from Paraffin (three-quarter sister to Lord Ljzon—2ooo Guineas, Derby and Leger— Achievement —1000 Guineas and Leger —and to Chevisaunce, dam of Jeanette —Oaks and Leger), by Blair Athol (Derby and Leger), from Paradigm Gialf sister to Rouge Rose, dam of Bend Or —Derby, and sire of Ormonde—--2000 Guineas, Derby and Leger). BEZONIAN was a high-class performer in England. He won the Kempton Breeders’ Foal Plate, lOOOsovs (beating Galvani), etc. Ran second in the 2000 Guineas to Slieve Galleon in 1.41 4-stb, third in the Champagne Stakes, Prince of Wales’ Stakes and Eclipse, and fourth in the Derby 1o Orby, Woolwinder, and Slieve Galleon (again heating Galvani).
