CONFERENCES IN SESSION.

IMPORTANT MEETINGS AT WELLINGTON. (Special to the Review.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Sportsmen from all parts of the Dominion are this week on a pilgrimage to Wellington. In addition to the races at Trentham, which are responsible for a lengthy visiting list, there are racing, trotting and boxing conferences in session at the Empire City. There are also the boxing championships and an interprovincial hockey match, which have each attracted numbers of enthusiasts, so that Wellington is quite a mecca for sportsmen. Unfortunately the weather is most depressing and wholly wretched, so that the pilgrims are far from a joyous crowd. The Trotting Conference disposed of a very modest agenda paper on Tuesday morning, the most important resolution passed being one to further encourage square gait trotters in preference to hobbled horses. The motion as adopted read, “In all programmes of clubs that hold eight races pei’ day there shall be at least two races per day for unhoppled horses of the trotting gait only, and at least one-sixth of the stakes given by any such club at each meeting shall be allotted to such races.” Another action of the Trotting Conference was to administer a rebuke to the egregious Mr. Armstrong, for it resolved in reference to a number of resolutions passed at a meeting of the Armstrong-Hackett Mutual Admiration Association that the letter be received and that the Minister for Internal Affairs be informed that the Conference of the New Zealand trotting clubs does not recognise the Auckland Mutual Sports Protection Association. The boxing championships started on Monday at the Town Hall and will be continued on Tuesday and Wednesday. The opening night was most disappointing, both as regards attendance and the sport provided.
