WELLINGTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, June 17. The many friends of T. Pritchard will be glad to hear that he is making a speedy recovery from his recent accident, and he is already looking forward to being well enough to ride at the C.J.C. Grand National meeting in August next. He is still an inmate of the Davis Street Private Hospital, but will shortly be well enough to be removed to his home at the Lower Hutt. The recent trotting meeting of the South Wairarapa Club was very successful from a financial point of view. At a meeting of stewards held on Thursday last it was decided to devote a goodly portion of the surplus money to improving and otherwise bringing the track at Moroa thoroughly up-to-date. The secretary, Mr W. Armstrong, was eulogised for his services, ana he was voted a substantial bonus.

Mr T. Dwyer, of Masterton, and known as the owner of Kopane and other horses, left here for Sydney by the Ulimaroa on Friday last. It is Mr Dwyer’s intention to race his horses in Australia during the next few months.

F. Carmont is busy at Levin wit' Sil' Frisco and Parewanui, both of whom will be seen out at the Napier Park meeting. Sir Frisco, who has been responsible for a season at the stud, appears to be coming back to form, judging by his displays on the tracks. This horse appreciates the going when the sting is out of the ground, and this being so he should be well suited in his forthcoming engagements.

Waipaku, who recently changed hands cheaply at £B6, will be a competitor in hack hurdle events at the Napier meeting. A. Wright is sparing no pains with a view to landing the Conqueror mare at the post in capital trim. It had been intended to nominate Merrivonia for the New Zealand Cup, but Mr Ames overlooked the closing date. Some more owners were in a similar plight to Mr Ames, ar the fact of the C.J.C. officials r' advertising extensively is blamed for the omission. Dearest has been sold by Air St. J. Buckley, and will in future race under the auspices of a local sportsman, who has adopted the assumed racing name, “Mi’ Harvey Raynor.” The Souß mare will, as heretofore, remain under J. H. Prosser’s guidance at Borirua. Recent arrivals at Prosser’s establishment at Porirua are a two-year-old filly by Charlemagne 11. from Stepka, a rising three-year-old by St. Ambrose from the same dam, and a two-year-old colt by Achilles from Report. The trio are all well put together, and give one the impression of turning out useful. Mr A. R. Maithv, of Masterton disposed of Gaelic for £250 during the recent A.R.C. meeting. Considering that Mr Maltby gave £2O for the gelding and won several races with him, the Mastertonian appears to have made a decidedly good investment. Mr C. Hammond, owner of Captain Bell and Reumac, who are at present in Australia and A. Atwood, their trainer, arrived back in Wellington by the Sydney steamer on Wednesday last. Both of them subsequently proceeded to their homes at Feilding. Mr H. Whitney has decided to try Aema at the jumping business. Her displays on the flat have been very disappointing and this fact has no doubt influenced the local owner to put the mare to obstacle clearing. F. Higgot, of Otaki, will be taking a small team to the Napier Park meeting, the list including Ladrone, Brown Trout, and Serenity. Gaelic, .who was recently purchased by Mr Vincent O’Neil, of Palmerston North, is to be taken across to Melbourne at the end of this month.

The son of Bonnie Scotland should make a decided acquisition to the ranks of the hurdle brigade in Australia.
