LATE RACING.

AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB. BIG FIELDS AND GOOD SPORT. TIRESOME WINS THE BIG EVENT. The weather was far from favourable on Wednesday, when the Avondale Jockey Club opened their autumn meeting. Heavy rain fell throughout Tuesday and the sky was still overcast on Wednesday morning, but fortunately as the day wore on the climatic conditions improved materially and the afternoon was pleasant. Despite the weather there was a very fair attendance, and the sport was particularly interesting. Contrary to expectations, the course, which has been greatly improved since the spring, was in excellent order and the going was good although a little soft. The management of the meeting was all that could be desired, and it is to the credit of the Avondale club that such complete arrangements are made for the enjoyment of their patrons, even down to a first-class hot luncheon at a reasonable price. The totalisator figures for the day amounted to £11,012, as against £11,654 10s for the first day of last season’s autumn meeting.
