MONOPLANE WINS THE CUP.

The Ohinemuri Jockey Club was more fortunate than most of the country clubs this season in securing fine weather tor their annual meeting. The recent heavy rains. • however, left the track wet and neavy, with the result that racing was tar from safe and accidents were consequently numerous. On the first day Albert Whittaker, one of the Dominion s most prominent horsemen, lost his lite through his mount coming down as a result of the slippery nature of the track. The management of the meeting met with some adverse criticism and visiting pressmen did not return with any glow of gratitude for the manner i n which they were treated. The totalisator returns were most satisfactory and showed an increase of £3222 10s on last year s figures. On the first day £7OOB passed through the machine, while on the second £6671 was handled. The attendances on both days were good ana speculation brisk. The totalisator returns amounted to £24,807 as against £21,561 for the same meeting last year.
