ROUND ABOUT ELLERSLIE.
After easing their charges up for a few days after the A.RjC. meeting, 'lodal trainers have presumed active work on the Ellerslie tracks •in view of the early approach of the Takapuna Jockey Club’s meeting. Some good schooling work over the Lattens was indulged in on Saturday. Pukewera fenced boldly, and had Materere for a companion over a round of hurdles. A Curassier mare out of Frand McManimen’s stable gave a promising display over the small hurdles.
Another maiden from, Morrow’s stable looks like making a useful jumper. Master Theory showed great improvement over the small hurdles on Saturday, 'and jumped with a great deal more confidence than previously. Walter Davis returned on Saturday from Canterbury after his unsuccessful trip with Turbine. Mahino cut loose for six furlongs alone on the tan. The last five were covered in 1.9.
Master Walter and a mate sprinted half a mile in 54 l-ssec. on the sand. Monotone and Geneva fluttered over throe furlongs, finishing together in 38 2*ssec. on the new grass.
Zinnia was pacemaker for a six-vear-old gelding, Master Lane (San Francisco —Miss Dane), from the six furlong post, but the latter lacked
condition. Master- Lane is in W. Devine’s stable.
Miss Livonia did steady work, and looked none the worse for her Ellerslie racing.
Pukewera easily held Don Quex at the end of six furlongs in I.23sec.
Monoline, who is coming back to her Ellerslie (early) track form, skipped over three furlongs in 37 4-ssec., beating Geneva. Zinnia, Master Lane, Aristocrat, and others did useful tasks. Jack Johnston is in work again. He is back in J. Chaaffe’s charge.
Monoline sprinted two furlongs down the back on the new grass in 24 4-ssec.
Master Wairiki looks blooming after his efforts at the Ellerslie meeting. Monorail is fast coming back to his Avondale form-
On Tuesday morning some interesting work was indulged in at Ellerslie on the sand track, reverse way round, by those horses having em gagements at Takapuna. Captain Paul, Hautere and Master Theory were given a turn over the big schooling hurdles. The former led all the way. The Soult gelding jumped with more confidence, and is certainly improving. ■Captain Paul has changed stables, and is now in Andy Robertson’s charge. . Master William and Materere galloped a circle on the sand. The latter was in front all the way. Time, 2.9 3-ssec.
" "Miss' tjivonia accounted fdi£ Br.eiftqn in a half-mile dash, done in 54 l-ssec.
Mildura and Lloyds jumped the battens. The former, for a novice, shaped pleasingly. The stable mates, Miss Ada and Fuss, sprinted four furlongs in 51 l-ssec.
Duma alone strode round the track (nine furlongs) in 2.9 sec. Maheno, with a lightweight, ran. six furlongs in 1-20 2-ssec. Tipperary spurted five furlongs in 1.6 3-ssec.
