THE HOUGHTON SULKY.

Messrs. Trist and Small, the wellknown saddlers and harness-makers of Christchurch, have been appointed agents in the Dominion for the Houghton Sulky Co.’s vehicles. The cart is beautifully constructed, and horsemen are enthusiastis over it. It is of modern construction, light and strong. Very symmetrical in make, roomy, and elegantly balanced. The Houghton Sulky Co. have supplied some interesting reading with regard to winning mounts on their sulkies: “Anvil,” with Mr. Geers up, won the Classic M. and M. 10,000 dollar stake at Detroit, Michigan; “Lewis Forrest,” the second, also being hitched to a Houghton sulky. It is a remarkable fact that Mr. Geers, after carefully considering the special advantages offered by all other sulkies, regardless of what price he might have to pay for them, selected the Houghton sulky for the most remarkable race of his ‘career, inasmuch as he himself bred, raised, trained and raced his entry Anvil. Another item of interest is the fact that Uhlan, in his wonderful record half mile, which he made in 57%sec at Cleveland, Ohio, was his first performance with the Houghton sulky. Yet another interesting fact is that of the race won by Independency Boy, at Columbus recently, in which the first heat was won in 2.02%, second heat 2.01%, and third in 2.02 flat. In all these races “Independence Boy” drew the Houghton sulky. This is the world’s record for the three fastest heats ever paced in a race, establishing beyond all doubt that the Houghton is the fastest sulky that any one horse can draw. The Houghton is a sulky that will give drivers the greatest amount of safety, and that will give their horse the best advantage with regard to speed, the sulky that will save money to buy, as it is pronounced by mechanics that is costs more money to build than any other sulky on the market today. x _ Besides sulkies, Messrs. Tnst and Small are the recognised Dominion authority on harness and saddlery required for both trotting and golloping, their stocks being extensive, modern and of the best quality.
