TRACK RECORDS.

With . the steady 'advancement of trotting and pacing as a popular sport, the class of horses competing are improving, and during the past season a large number of records h'ave been established. The following is a table that has been compiled giving most of the important records of the year:—

The sport of trotting has taken a great hold in Australia and la large number of high-class American performers are new ' located there. Recently a local-bred one, named Aufwieglerin, 5 years old, established a new record, going 2min. 12sec. for the mile. While a three-year-old colt named Herold did 2min 17%sec. :J: ' ® $ * The actual order of favouritism for the New Zealand Trotting Cup was as follows: —Al Franz, then Dick Fly and Redchild coupled, then Aberfeldy and Lady Cl'are coupled, then Bribery, Medallion, Bright, Havoc, Wilkie, and Imperial Polly as named.

Lady Clare was purchased by her present owner for £l4O, and her success was popular. Sfne was driven by J. Brankin.

The New Zealand Trotting Thousand decided last week at Christchurch is thus described by “Sir Bedivere: —“At the first attempt Briberyreached the clock before his time, and the field was called back. After being ag'ain placed in their respective positions, a start was made, and all got away well but Bribery and Medallion, the latter of whom did not leave the mark. Lady Clare and Imperial Polly were practically on terms for lialf-a-mile, when the former drew out clear in front, and with a mile gone the order was Lady Clare, Al Franz, Dick Fly, Red Child, Aberfeldy, and Havoc. Coming round the final bend, Lady Clare was still a couple of lengths ahead of Al Franz, the next positions being occupied by Dick Fly, Red Child, Aberfeldy, Bright, and Havoc. In the run home Dick Fly passed Al Franz, but he could not overhaul Lady Clare, who won a good race by three-quarters of a length. Al Franz was next away, third, Red Child fourth, Aberfeldy fifth, and Bright sixth. The winner trotted 4min 38sec, and private watches timed her to cover the first half-mile in Imin 6 2-ssec, and the first mile in 2min 18 2-ssec.

W. Price, of Papatoitoi, has purchased the trotting mare, Miss Bell Boy, and is training her himself for future events.

According to an American exchange no less than thirty new horses have got into the 2.10 class in the States this season.

Unlike the Canterbury Jockey Club the Metropolitan Trotting Club bias a ten-shilling totalisator, and it is interesting to learn from the owner, that no less than 44,0000 tickets were sold on Cup day lit Addington. This is easily a record for New Zealand.
