“ After giving stastistics as to the number of bookmakers licensed by the various racing clubs m and arol Sydney and Newcastle, he computed that the public of the State had to find £200,000 every year for the upkeep of the bookmaker and his clerk before they could get the odds to a shilling In his Bill he proposed to deduct 10 per cent from all money passing through the totalisator, and give 5 per cent of it to the Government and 5 per cent to the racing '.tabs. That would yield £300,00 0 a year for the Government.’
