Miss Ruby Roberts, the Australian professional lady champion, has already jumped into favour in London, where her movements are being closely watched ,when at the table. This genial' I'ady exhibited a first-' class knowledge of the game by the time her uncle, Charlie Memmott, had finished, his tutorship, but she has much improved in form since her arrival in England, and has been engaged by Messrs. Thurston to show regularly during the season in the Minor Hall, Leicester-squ'are. ♦'.• * * * • Billiard followers the world over will learn with unfeigned delight of an . announcement. in the English Press to the effect that Charlie Dawson, ex-champion of the world, has decided to return to the scene of his former triumphs. In his time Dawson was indeed a great player,; land his memorable defeats of. Stevenson will not.. readily be forgotten. The latter subsequently got even on Dawson, to whom he ladled out some “hot stuff,” and right in the midst of some strenuous fights between these two great performers, came the news of Dawson’s compulsory retirement consequent upon some serious eye trouble. This was in January, 1909. The pleasant news now comes to hand that Dawson is looking and feeling very fit for battle 'against old, and new opponents. The billiard world will surely congratulate Dawson upon his recovery 'and re-entry into the arena.
