AUSTRALIAN RACING.
VICTORIA AMATEUR TURF CLUB’S MEETING. The V.A.T.C. opened their August meeting at Caulfield on Saturday. The following was the result of the leading event: — THE AUSTRALIAN HURDLE RACE of ISOOsovs: lOOOsovs of the said sum to go to the first horse, 200sovs to the second, and lOOsovs to the third. Three miles and a-half less 92 yards. Mr. P. Ross’ b g Arquebuse. 6yrs. by ■Pistol—(Birchen, 11.5 1 Mr. H. A. Hancock's br g Flash Jack, syrs. by Junot —Princess, 9.0 2 Mr. R. A. D. Hood’s b g Minato, aged, by Portsea. —Lady, 10.5 3 Once settled down, Invermayson took charge, Minato. however, went to the front before the turn was reached, followed by (Bribery, Huntersdon. Yarrabar, Invermayson. with Arquebuse last. Excepting Steam displacing Bribery in second place, there was little change till after passing- the judge’s box the second time The pace quickened along the back, where Minato still led from Obi and Yarrabar. with Flash Jack and Arquel uso handv. Minato fell back at the turn, and Obi took command. The last fence, however, beat Obi. and a fall on -his part , left‘Arquebuse with the lead, with Minato. Flash Jack and Battery his closest attendants. In a good finish Arquebuse kept the opposition at bay, and he had ■i .nock the best of it when the post was reached. Flash Jack was two lengths in front of Minato. Time, Gmin 52%sec.
