Stourton has changed hands, Mrlan Simpson, of Hastings, having purchased the son of Birkenhead from Mr. J. Lucas, of Gisborne. * sj: # sfc At the last winter fixture of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club, a brace of gee gees in Jack Pot and Diplomacy met their quietus at the gathering, and during the progress of the winter meeting at Hastings last week a couple of other horses, Aorangi and Lionheart, were despatched to the happy hunting grounds. * V Two half brothers in Whakaweira and Espartero have been nominated for the Grand National Hurdle Race. * V -S * Through riding Projectile to victory at Hastings, H. Gray is now one ahead of A. Whittaker in the winning jockeys’ list. 9 « K 9 - The veteran “Patsy” Butler was one of the spectators at the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s late meeting. The ancient looked all serene, and seemed as if he was enjoying the sport. Another old-timer in H. Goodwin was also assisting at the meeting. * * * * Blue Mount and Dogger Bank were both tried over hurdles at Ellerslie recently, and gave promise of turning out good jumpers. * -s * * Antoinette, who scored a brilliant double victory when she won the Easter Handicap and Northern Oaks at the Ellerslie autumn meeting, has made her reappearance on the track. She is looking remarkably fresh and trim after her well-earned spell. * * • Loch Fyne has been getting through some useful work of late, and it is surprising that his name does not appear among the nominations at Trentham or Riccarton- * * * * Don Quex will represent Auckland in the Winter Hurdles at Trentham next month, with J. Pinker in the saddle. =S :js * * A fair string of northern horses will probably go south for the Wellington winter meeting next month. The nominations from Auckland are: Antarctic, Don Quex, Miss Explosion, Electrakoff, Wauchope, Dogger Bank, Delegate, Hoanga b and Fuss. « J. Williamson intends sending First Barrel, Scotch, and Okaihau to Gisborne this week to fulfil engagements at the Poverty Bay winter fixture. Delegate has made a good recovery from his accident on the last day of the Great Northern meeting, and will, doubtless, be sent down to Trentham to contest the Jumpers’ Flat Race. ©eft Whittaker has been engaged by Stead Bros, to go to Australia to ride their string of horses that are going to cross the Taisman Sea. # Lady Patricia has been turned out for a spell. * sf * Dawn is to be given another trial to see if he can stand a preparation for further racing. The son of Birkenhead is getting through his light work encouragingly. Antarctic has been treated to a course of physic, and he has consequently been only doing light work for some days. Electrakoff’s nomination for the C.J.C. National Hurdles was a surprise to many. It was not thought Menschikoff’s speedy son was going to be put over the sticks. However, he is also nominated for the Winter Cup. >1: ❖ * Although Le Beau is looked upon as unsound, he has been doing some very strenuous hill work of late, which has hardened up the son of Leolantis. If he stands his preparation, Le Beau will go to Riccarton. to< fulfil his engagement in the Grand National Steeplechase.
