ASHBURTON RACING CLUB'S MEETING.

FIRST DAY. The Ashburton County Racing Club’s autumn meeting was opened on Thursday in fine weather. Both the entries and attendance were good, while the racing was, on the whole, interesting. The sum of £5648 10s was put through the totalisator, as against £3141 on the corresponding day last year. Results are as follow:— DONGBEACH HACK HANDICAP.— Crosbie 1, Stepmeter 2, Bolt from theBlue 3. Scratched: Clanmena, Directoire and Torrential. Routine and Canterbury alternately led till the straight was reached, when they drew level, and a good finish resulted in Routine getting home by a length. The attendance was again good, while the totalisator receipts: for the day reached £5878. The total for the meeting was £11,526 10s, as against. £6183 last year when bookmakers were in attendance.
