BENEFIT TO BILLY MURPHY.

ON MONDAY NEXT. The Northern Boxing Association have been working assiduously for some time now making preparations for the benefit to be tendered to Auckland’s greatest boxer, Billy Murphy, and arrangements are now practically complete for the carnival which takes, place on Monday night next. Mr. Trudgeon, the able secretary, has been to considerable trouble in matching the best amateurs in Auckland, and everything points to Monday night’s programme being a most attractive one. During the evening a bout is to be held between Tim Tracy, of Wellington, and Billy Murphy, which should alone prove a big draw. E. O’Meara, champion featherweight of Auckland, and H. G. McLisky, champion featherweight of the Waikato have been matched to box six two minute rounds for a trophy, valued at £3 3s, and the meeting of this clever pair is being looked forward to with much interest by ring enthusiasts. Those evenly matched middleweights, Olsen and Holt, are also to try conclusions, and a hard and exciting contest is anticipated between the pair. A professional bout between Alf. Gault and Bert. Murphy is included in Monday night’s bill of fare, and if their showing against Tim Tracy can be taken as a criterion of their respective merits, an evenly fought contest should be in store for boxing patrons. As matters stand at present the programme has been outlined as follows: E. O’Meara v. H. G*. McLisky. G. Olsen, v. G. Holt. Billy Murphy, v. Tim Tracy. Alf. Gault, v. Bert Murphy. L. Ross, v. W. Nelson. T. O’Brien, v. S. Arthur. Barney Donovan, v. H. Donovan. F. Dyer, senr., v. Dyer, junr. J. Young, v. Price. T. Lewis, v. H. Williams. Gilchrist, v. L. O’Brien. Brain, v. Fordham. The following well-known amateur boxers have also offered their services for Monday evening: Patrick Pooley, Savoury, Crawford, and Manly.
