PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET MATCH.
CANTERBURY DEFEATS AUCKLAND. A DECISIVE VICTORY. The Plunket Shield match between Auckland and Canterbury representative cricketers, which wjas commenced on Saturday, was concluded yesterday afternoon, a brilliant victory going to the visitors, who won the match, and the Shield, by six wickets and one run. On the first innings Auckland had a lead of 80 runs, but in their second attempt a poor total of 199 was credited to them. This left the visitors to put together 280 to win in their second innings, and this they did for the loss of but four wickets. The effort was a firstclass one and the members of the team are fully deserving of the success achieved. Owing to want of space we regret being unable to give a detailed account of the play, and have to confine ourselves to the scores given below:— AUCKLAND—First Innings .... 349 CANTERBURY —First Innings .. 269 AUCKLAND. —Second Innings.
