FIRST DAY. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s Summer Meeting opened in beautiful weather The attendance was larger than last'year. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s summer meeting was concluded on Tuesday. During the early morning the weather was dull, light rain falling in intermittent showers. The weather cleared before noon, and the remainder of the day was calm and cool. The attendance was again very large. Eight bookmakers paid a fee of £2O 10s each for the right to ply their calling. The totalisator investments amounted to £7503, as against £6BBl for the corresponding day of last year, making a total for the two days of £15,613, an increase of £2218 on the last summer meeting. The following were the results: — AOTEA HANDICAP HURDLES. One mile and three-quarters. Mr. A. Hatiherway’s ch g Rosegrove, aged, by Rangipuhi—Forest Rose, 10.11 (F. Cress) 1 Mr. A. Voetgang had the race well in hand and won without pressure by four lengths from Berengaria, the same distance separating the latter from Parable, who came again at the finish and settled Idealism for third honours.
