WANGANUI.
(From Our Own Correspondent !
WANGANUI, October 3.
Mr. A- Jackson, who overlooked accepting Roosevelt and John in the New Zealand Cup, has nominated the pair named, also The Lark, for the Auckland Cup and other events at that meeting. The two-year-old half-brother to Danuoe, owned by Mr. A. J. Buckley, was allowed to do a preliminary down the straight on the first day of the Wanganui meeting just before the start of the Gonville Hack Hurdles. The colt is one which shows plenty of quality, and moves very nicely- He will probably be given a start in the Hastings Stakes, in which event Periene (by Achilles —Blue Water) will also run. This filly promises to prove slippery. The withdrawal of Crucinella from the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps came as a most unpleasant surprise to many here, who had looked forward to the mare performing with distinction at the A.J.C- meeting. p fact that she had to be scratched ufould be a . blow to her owner, Mr. F Mcßeth, and several friends who went p over to Sydney expressly to see her run. Nothing hut had luck, has attended the New Zealand contingent, Turhich has visited Australia this season. The death of Milan, and the -ailments which have put Lady Lucy and Crucinella out of action have robbed both the AJ.C. and the V.R-C. spring meetings of a lot of their inS terest Mr. J. H. Pollock, the well-known has made a very good | suggestion in reference to the WangaInui Trotting Club’s next race meeting. He suggests that a gathering should be held at a time when there S is little racing in Canterbury, so as to get the South Island horses up this W ay. Also that this meeting should follow on after the Hutt Valley and Manawatu meetings. The committee of the local club are inclined to favour the proposal. The meeting of the Wanganui Guineas winner with Polymorphus, California and Bobrikoff, and other cracks in the Champion Plate at Trentham, is being looked forward to with keen interest. If those mentioned go to the post, a great struggle should be witnessed, and fast time will probably be put up if the conditions are favourable.
Messrs- Freeman R. Jackson and Co. held a sale on Saturday morning of thoroughbred horses bred by Mr. G. F- Moore, of Bushy Park. The following prices were realised: —Ch g, three years, by Conqueror from Van, sold to D. Noake for 20% guineas; bay filly, two years, by Sweet Simon from Moreen, sold to Mr. D- P. Cullinane, 13 guineas; bay gelding, two years, by Sweet Simon from Zaida, sold to Mr- Clive Matthews, 20 guineas; brown gelding, two years, by Sweet Simon from full sister to Dante, sold to Mr. J. T. Williams, 19 guineas; brown filly, two years, by St. Ambrose (imp.) from Pistol (full sister to Halberdier), sold to Mr. Clive Matthews, 30 guineas; brown gelding, two years, by Lupin (imp.) from St- Lyra by St. Leger, from Lyrelinus, sold to Mr. Jas.
