As an example of rural brilliancy, the following is hard to beat. A man was sent on a journey to take a parcel about 12 miles. As he started rather late in the day, his master was surprised to see him soon after dark. “You surely haven’t been there and
back?” his employer said to him. “No, no master,” the man replied, "I got half theer and it began to get dark, so I corn’d back again. I’ll go ’other half termorrer.”
