TRAINING NOTES.

ELLERSLIE. THURSDAY. A beautifully fine morning greeted (trainers on Saturday, and both the grass and sand tracks, which were in good order, were placed at the disposal of trainers. The following work was witnessed. ’ BAND. Maxwell and Minstrel were companions over half a mile, the former appearing to most advantage in 51 3-5. Dogger Bank and Turbine, separately, were responsible for useful exercise. Zinnia carried too many guns for Captain Soult, and beat him a length at the end of four furlongs in 51 3-5. Maykoff did not please in a seven furlong task, the last six furlongs occupying 1.26. The best gallop of the morning was • registered by Santa Rosa and Waimangu, the pair casting seven furlongs behind in 1.31. They finished together, but Waimangu appeared to hold his companion. Prophet, who is evidently not to be given much of a spell, was out doing easy exercise. Lady Betty, Hamadryad. Columbia and Miss Ada, the latter getting left at the start, finished in the order written at the end of half a mile in 51 4-5. Advocate and Epsom Lass were together over five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. Goodwin Sands and Miss Folly sprinted. Westerly was not bustled to run seven furlongs in 1.40. Pairawaatu beat Freevata over four furlongs in 52. Royal News and Wenonah spurted half a mile. Scotch left five furlongs behind in 1.9 4-5. Omati was sent over a circuit which ■he covered in 2.6 1-5. GRASS. Harry Lauder sprinted three furlongs in 42 3-5. Miss Winsome and Solitude were given light tasks. Rangihaeta beat Waiotahi and Antarctic over six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. Whataroa had too much pace for Miss Explosion over a circuit, occupying 2.7 4-5. Peggy Pryde did useful work. Condamine was beaten by a three-year-old-companion over three furlongs in 40 3-5. Poictiers and Apelion were to have been companions, but the former got away with the boy. Apelion r£%n five furlongs in 1.7. Blue Garments covered the same distance in 1.8 2-5. Coromandel and Solus ran a short seven furlongs in 1.36. Vivace left five furlongs behind in 1.9, 'her stable companion. Antoinette, going a furlong further in 1.23. His Highness and Master William took 1.10 4-5 over five furlongs. Michaeloff beat Sir Artegal at the finish of a seven furlong gallop, taking 1.35 2-5. Rauparaha and Kilsyth were not bustled over five furlongs, which took 1.14 4-5. Monocle left half a mile behind in 52. St. Maria gave a first-class display of jumping while doing a round of the schooling hurdles. SATURDAY. A heavy fog hung over the course on Saturday and in the early stages it was difficult to accurately time the horses. Both the sand and grass tracks were open, but the grass was the only one used. Wenonah and Royal News slipped over five furlongs in 1.6, Wenonah showing to most advantage. Advocate had more to say than Epsom Lass over seven furlongs in 1.34 3-5. Solus had the best of Goodwin Sands and Miss Folly over five furlongs in 1.7. Delegate covered a circuit in 1.56.

His Highness and Master William ran half a mile. Coromandel and Duma were together at the end of a circuit in 1.55. Kakama appeared to have Blue Garment beaten at the end of five furlongs in 1.5. Sir Artegal was going better than Michaeloff over a mile in 1.48 2-5. Waiotahi beat Master Theory over six furlongs in 1.20. Master Jack and Duart were together well out from Arawa at the end of four furlongs in 51 4-5. (Monocle made a hack of Bogey over five furlongs in 1.7. Vatican left three furlongs behind in 40. Columbia easily settled Seatonette over half a mile in 52 2-5. A fast half mile was registered by Captain Soult and Princess Soult, the former just winning in 50 4-5. Lochbuie assisted by Zinnia and Miss Ada left a mile behind in 1.46 2-5. Turbine, with Dogger Bank over the first three furlongs, ran half a mile in 52 2-5. Puhi easily settled Bonny Fishwife over five furlongs in 1.10 2-5. Lady Frances sprinted five furlongs, the last four in 52 3-5. Condamine and a three-year-old companion sprinted three furlongs in 39. Tranquil, Cloudy Dawn and Miss Winsome were almost in line at the box after sprinting three furlongs in 38 2-5. Miss Explosion was going easier .than Cavaliero over a circuit in 2.1. Freevata made a hack of Pairawaatu over five furlongs, the last four taking 55. Musterer cast five furlongs behind in 17. Obe sprinted three furlongs in 39. Solitudo and Master Baber sprinted the same distance in 38 3-5. On the sand Rauparaha easily beat Mary Ann over half a mile in 53 1-5. A number of others were out doing useful exercise. TUESDAY. The rain of the previous evening did not materially affect the tracks on Tuesday, and the following gallops were registered: GRASS. Duart galloped four furlongs in 52 3-6, moving nicely. There was little to choose between Pairawaatu and Freevata at the end of a three furlong sprint in 39. Miscaeloff showed to advantage over Arawa in a half mile burst in 54. Sir Artegal ran a mile, .the last seven furlongs taking 1.35'2-5. Master Theory was going better than Waiotahi over five furlongs in 1.8. Coromandel and Duma were in line at the end of a circuit in 2.4. Master Jack left five furlongs behind in 1.92. Hamadryad had too much pace for Columbia over five furlongs from a standing start •in 1.9 1-5. Prophet was out doing easy exercise. Captain Soult and Vatican were together at the end of half a mile, the last three furlongs taking .40 1-5. Lochbuie was too good for Zinnia over six furlongs in 1.22 2-5. Santa Rosa finished in front of Waimangu over the same distance in 1.18 2-5. Maykoff ran half a mile in 53 3-5. Glad Tidings and a half sister to Ben Jonson sprinted down the straight. SAND. Royal News and His Highness ran four furlongs in 53, the former having most to say at the finish. Kakama, Blue Garment, with Solus over the last five, were not bustled over six furlongs in 1.21. Taimainup'o and Muskewai sprinted three furlongs in 38 2-5, the former going best. Scotch left half a mile behind in 54 2-5. Rauparaha had Kilsyth well beaten at the end of six furlongs from a standing start in 1.21 1-5. Monocle sprinted half a mile in 54 1-5. Handsome Paul and Jack Jonson sprinted three furlongs. 'Lady Frances covered six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. California covered three rounds at a useful pace. Lady Dot was under a strong pull to keep with 'Miss Ada and St. Tarra over four furlongs in 52 4-5. Bonny Fishwife had another defeat, Puhi making a hack of her over six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. St. Maria left seven furlongs behind in 1.36. Princess Soult sprinted half a mile in 53 4-5. Miss Winsome was going easier than Cloudy Dawn at the end of three furlongs in 38 3-5. The two-year-old by finished in front of Tranquil in a sprint up the straight. Maxwell was going better than Turbine at the finish of half a mile in 52. Obe and Condamine sprinted from the mile post to the five furlong post (three furlongs) in 38 4-5, the former just finishing in front.
