From present appearances big fields will again face the starters in the leading long-distance events of the road racing season- The first important Victorian event, the Cycle Traders’ 100 miles’ race, has drawn well over 300 entries, a very gratifying result to the promoters of the event. Judged by this event, indications point to the Dunlop “ Warrnambool” race attracting a big entry- Last year’s nominations totalled 548, easily a world’s record for any class of race. Road riders are reminded that entries positively close With the Dunlop Co. on Friday, September 2nd-

The sporting offer of £2O by the Dunlop Rubber Co. to the -first Australasian cyclist bettering L. Meredith’s recent 100 miles’ unpaced road record of 4hrs. 52mins. 51 4-ssec., over an out-and-home course on English roads, has been favourably received in cycling circles- Already several crack riders are talking about makingearly attempts to secure the record, and A. H- 'Shepherd, the well-known Newcastle (N.S.W-) rider, has already given notice of making an attempt on September 3. Next week we shall offer some suggestions to intending aspirants for the record, suggestions that will prove of considerable value to those desirous of attempting to lower the English record. Further particulars to hand from England show that Meredith (who rode a machine geared to 84in, fitted with 7in cranks) covered the first 50 miles in the early hours of the morning, just at break of day, in the exceedingly good time of 2hrs. 24mins. Upon turning Meredith had the advantage of a favouring breeze, and covered the second fifty in 2hrs- 28mins- 51 4-ssec-The last sixteen miles were negotiated in 45mins. Meredith had no trouble with the machine or tyres-
