HAWKE'S BAY

(From Our Own Correspondent.) NAPER, July 11. Full Cry has quite got over the trouble that befell him at Hastings last month, and the ancient gelding is now doing good serviceable work on the preparing grounds at Napier Park, and it is his trainer’s intention to rail him to Wellington by Thursday morning’s express from Hastings. He will probably ibe accompanied by Multiple, Morey koff, Goldemar and Oakley. Sleacombe has found a new owner, Mr. A- M. Richardson, of Waipawa, having quitted Birkenhead’s son to a local sport, Mr. E. Limbrick. The gelding has been transferred to the custody of J. Oldfield, who, by the way, is getting a good team together. California, who is due to leave Hastings next Wednesday morning for Trentham, is being slipped along in earnest on the preparing circuits at Hastings. The big chestnut pulls up sound and well, and his connections are partial to his chance in the Parliamentary Handicap at the Wellington Racing Club’s venture this week. J. Griffiths has been engaged to pilot Dazzle’s son.

The report that Wimmera’s scratching for the Grand National Hurdle Race was due to his being sick and sorry is without foundation, for when I had a look at Merriwee’s son today, I could not discover anything the matter with him. The reason he will not be a goer in the Grand National Hurdle Race is due to the fact that those connected with him consider that he has been too highly assessed in the way of avoirdupois, and to show that all is well with him it may be noted that he is a sure starter for the Winter Cup. There is just a probability that Wimmera will be sent along to take a hand on the final day of the Wellington Racing Club’s Winter Meeting, provided, of course, that the weight adjustment agrees with his owner’s ideas upon the jectParable, whose lease expired last month, has been returned to her owner, Mr. E- J. Watt, and the grey-ticked daughter of Palaver is having a rest on the Longlands Estate. At the end of the month she will again be put in active commission by T- Quinlivan, jun.

Bridge, who has been well backed for the New Zealand Cup, is going along well and strong at Ngatarawa. Had there been room for him at TQuinlivan’s quarters he would have been there now 1 , but as Mr- E. J. Watt’s private trainer has got his hands full in the manipulation of several promising two-year-olds, the Possible’s son was sent to one of his owner’s stations to be got ready for the big event at Riccarton in November, and consequently those who have supported him for the big handicap of the year may with confidence rest assured that there is nothing amiss with him.

To-day Mr. T- H. Lowry informed me that there is every chance of Bpbrikoff being seen out carrying silk at the spring venture of the A-J.C. Finland’s son is still resting at Okawa station, and, judging from his owner’s reports, the black gelding was never better than he is at the present timeHe sports about the paddock in a gay, light-hearted style, which ably demonstrates that he is fit and well? Nero has been doing all that has been asked of him during the past week at Hastings, and those connected with him will not hear of his failure in the Wellington Steeplechase. Aorangi is now a pupil of WStone’s, and is being specially prepared for the Grand National fixture at Riccarton next month.
