Grafnax led over the first obstacle from Billiards, Generality and Squirm. There was little change to the seven furlong post, where Grafnax still had charge, with Kororoit and Billiards his nearest attendants. Billiards fell at the next jump. Approaching the treble Harvest joined Grafnax, Workmaster, Eyot and Kororoit. The last jump of the treble proved disastrous to Harvest, who fell, and brought down Eyot and Riverbank. Grafnax, going splendidly, continued in the lead, his nearest attendants being Ripon and Kororoit, until the latter ran off. Grafnax, increasing his advantage, led by three lengths at the six furlongs from Ripon, who was followed by Squirm, Workmaster and Confederate. At this stage Stately and Nigel fell and Ripon came down at the next fence. Half a mile from home Grafnax was showing the way to Lycaon, Generality, Seymour and Workmaster, and they crossed the last fence in that order. Grafnax drew away and won by five lengths, eight lengths separating the second and third horses. Time, 6min 35sec. The Douttagalla Hurdle race was won by Obi. with The Reckoning second and King’s Ransom third. Obi won by seven lengths. Time, 4min 15%sec.
