TURF RESULTS.

WELLINGTON RACING CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING. ARMLET WINS THE THOMPSON HANDICAP. Excellent weather prevailed for the first day of the Wellington Racing Club’s Autumn Meeting. The attendance was fair and the racing brilliant. Two records were registered in the Thompson Handicap and the North Island Challenge Stakes. The sum of £12,469 10s was invested on the totalisator, as against £11,538 for the first day of last year’s autumn meeting. The bookmakers’ fees, 24 of whom were operating, amounted to £342. The results are as follows:— FIRST HURDLE HANDICAP of 200 sovs, second horse to receive 35sovs, and the third horse 15sovs from the stake. One mile and three-quarters. 3— Mr. C. B. Pharazyn’s br g Longner, by The Officer—Handsome Jack mare, syrs, 9.9 (A. McConnon) 1 2—‘Mr. H. Whitney’s Whatakura, 10.4 (T. Pritchard) B I—Hon. J. D. Ormond’s Audax, 9.11 (Julian) 8 Also started: 4, Chase Mab, 9.0. Longner and Whatakura jumped the first hurdle together a length ahead of the other pair. Going past the stand Audax went to the front, and, running very wide, led to the five furlongs post, where Chase Mab took command. Longner came through again at the straight entrance, and won comfortably by a length from Whatakura, who was a couple of lengths ahead of Audax. Time, Bm. 20 3-ss. After considerable delay at the start, the field was despatched on fairly even terms. At the end of a furlong Armlet was almost clear of Ballarat, and then followed Tumut, Waipaku, and Northeast, while the last three were Lady Medallist, Mataari, and Adria. Armlet came into the straight two lengths ahead of Ballarat, but tjie latter was then done with, and Tumut challenged Armlet. In the run home Armlet drew away and won by three lengths from Tumut, who just lasted long enough to get second •honours toy a neck from North East. Husbandman was fourth, Lady Medallist fifth, Ballarat sixth,, and Waipaku and Adria last. Time, Im. 40 l-ss. NORTH ISLAND CHALLENGE STAKES of 660 soys; second horse to receive lOOsovs, and the third horse 50 sovs from the stake; a further sum of 60sovs to be deducted from the stake and apportioned for the encouragement of breeders. After going a couple of furlongs, Penates ran up to Formby, and the pair raced together to the home turn, where Penates retired, and Polymorphus challenged Formby. A good race resulted in a win for Formby by half a length from Polymorphus, with Penates three lengths away, and Gold Lace fourth. Flitaway was last. Time, Im. 28s. PLUNKET NURSERY HANDICAP of 150sovs; second horse to receive 20sovs, and the third horse lOsovs from the stake. For two-year-olds. Five furlongs. I—Sir Geo. The last 50 yards resulted in a great struggle between Perle d’Or and Effort, the latter gaining the verdict by half a head. Emblem was soon showing out in front, and thereafter she was never headed, winning easily by over two lengths from Kina, who was a similar distance In front of Explosive. SECOND DAY.

It was again beautiful weather on Saturday for the second and concluding day of the Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting, and there was a very large attendance at Trentham. Totalisator investments for the day amounted to £16,102, an Increase of £2832 on the figures for the second day of the last autumn fixture. The total for the meeting was £28,572. Eight bookmakers were licensed to: bet on the lawn, and thirteen to bet on the outside. Their fees amounted to £3OO 10s. Over the last hurdle Gold Bird came on the outside and won easily by three parts of a length. Longner was five lengths away third. Time, 2m. 46 4-ss.
