WHANGAREI RACING CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING.
OPENS TO-MORROW. A large number of local sportsmen left for Whangarei last evening to assist at the Summer gathering of the Whangarei Racing Club, which opens on the Kensington Racecourse tomorrow (Friday), and concludes on Saturday. In previous years the meeting has proved an entire success, and judging by the class of horses engaged to-morrow and Saturday a fresh record should have to be written-up in the history of the Club. A fair number of horses from Ellerslie will compete, and they should bring back a fair share of the spoils. The programme to be negotiated on the first day is as follows:—Settlers’ Handicap, six furlongs; Kensington Stakes, four furlongs; Hurdles, one mile and a-half; Trot Handicap, one mile and a-half; Whangarei Cup, one mile and a distance; Railway Handicap, six furlongs; Publicans’ Purse, seven furlongs; Flying Handicap, five furlongs. The secretary (Mr. R. J. Dent) has everything in order and visitors can rely upon receiving every attention at his hands.
