DOC BROWN’S CAMPAIGN SPEECH.
Doc Brown, a confederate waggonmaker and ignorant genius, described by the New York Press as being as 'big as Jeffries and as handsome as 'Beau Brummel, ran for the Kentucky legislature, and his county gathered in the courthouse to hear Doc make a speech. There was nary a woman amongst them, but Doc got up and said: “Ladies and Gentlemen,” and •Sheriff Blue started a laugh. Doc said again: “Ladies and Gentlemen.” Then he saw what they were laughing at, and in the twinkle of an eye said: “I see there are no ladies here and damn few gentlemen.” Doc got elected.
