WANGANUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, December 28. It is said that Crucinella surprised even her connections by winning on the first day of the Manawatu meeting, when she paid a big dividend, being the outsider of the field. She had done some good galloping, but her connections did not care to entrust her with too much coin, as she was not thought to be too reliable at this season of the year. However, she got there, though she did not have much to spare. Moose was backed locally as if the race was all over, and the Sou’-wester gelding duly won, though his supporters did not get much of a return for their money. Still, everyone was pleased to see his owner have a turn of luck after the disappointment experienced at Feilding. Frank Lind has taken Kaiwhaka and Overtime to New Plymouth. After competing at the Taranaki meeting the pair will be railed to Stratford for the annual gathering to be held there on the Ist and third January. The Malatua gelding Marutoa, by Malatua, trained by George Laing, has been showing really good form over the hurdles during the last week or so, and the other morning had much the best of things in a go with Kaiwhaka. Marutoa is engaged at the Taranaki and Stratford meetings, and should pick up a stake or two before returning home. Mr. W. J. Aynsley, one of Wanganui’s best-known and most popular sportsmen, intends leaving for a holiday trip to Australia in the course of a week or so. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Aynsley, and will probably be absent some five or six weeks. Since he took up his residence in Wanganui some few years ago, Mr. Aynsley has been closely identified with sport of all kinds, and it was to a large extent due to his enthusiasm that the Wanganui Trotting Club was formed, while he also had a great deal to do with the formation of the Wanganui Amateur Boxing Association. His many friends will join in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Aynsley a pleasant trip and a safe return.
