STARTING OFF SCRATCH.
In connection with the recent Queensland elections, a good yarn is told by Jack Moran, the Ravenswood publican, which is too good to let pass, says. Brisbane “ Sunday Sun.” It appears that a day or two before
polling day some of the young sparks went and interviewed Jack with reference to the result of the election, and one of them said, “I’ll bet you six drinks that Jackson won’t have a majority of 100.” Jack, thinking this was a soft snap, said, “If Jackson don’t beat O’Sullivan by 100 I’ll shout enough drink to make you all drunk.” On Saturday night of the polling day, the same six turned up a little the worse for the election excitement,, when Jack again thought he had a soft thing on, and mentioned the fact he had to give them enough drink to make them all drunk, and suggested to one of them that he should do so, but was met with the response, “Look here, Jhack! hie! Let’s start off scratch! hie! ’nother night! hie! not to, hie! night!”
