TIVOLI THEATRE.

PICTURES AND VAUDEVILLE. Patrons of the Tivoli Theatre, Newton, had another budget of good pictures presented to them on Wednesday evening, and must have been well satisfied with the new programme. The motor boat race at Burnham, England, is the star picture, and the best yet shown at the Tivoli. Another which was well received by those present was the “ Twelve o’clock Express,” a dramatic picture of the highest standard. There are also scenic, military, and humorous pictures in plenty, and lovers of every kind are well catered for. On Filday evening a cake walk contest be-

tween Messrs. Halley and Makinini will eventuate, and there will also be a ladies’ ballad-singing competition, entries for which close at the Tivoli Theatre. A change of programme will be presented on Wednesday next. ) ; ■. ■—- 3 “THE PICTURE GARDEN.” : AN AL FRESCO ENTERTAINMENT. . A novel departure in the way of al } fresco entertainments has been made i in the form of a “ Picture Garden,” > which has its locale at Queen’s Parade, Devonport. In a sheltered retreat, enhanced with ferns and native trees, and brilliantly lighted with innumerable electric bulbs, the scene is most picturesque, and one is able to enjoy the real good programme presented at perfect ease and without the discomforts of a crowded indoor entertainment. A splendid, series of bioscope pictures is shown, while musical items are interspersed by firstclass artists every evening. The “ Garden” was opened last Wednesday week, and, judging by the appreciative comments passed, it is likely to bring a gratifying result to the enterprising management. Tired town folk are particularly well catered for, one shilling being the price of admission, including the ferry fare.
