NORTH TARANAKI HUNT CLUB'S ANNUAL RACE MEETING.

The North Taranaki Hunt Club held its annual race meeting on the New Plymouth racecourse in fine weather on Thursday. Mr. R. E. Mcßae officiated as handicapper and Mr. Fred Watson as starter. Good fields were the order of the day, and the gathering was a most successful one. Results: — HUNTERS’ FLAT. One mile and a distance. —W. iMcßeth’s Rocket, H.2 (E. Gordon), 1; Mcßae’s Nightgown, 11.2 (L. H Wilson), 2; C. Matthews’ Drudgery, 12.5 (R. D. Matthews), 3. Also started: Cyrogne, Anecdote, and Tarpot. Won by a neck, with a nose separating Nightgown and Drudgery. Time, 2min. ISsec. LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ STEEPLECHASE. About two miles and a distance.—H. D. Matthews’ Rua, 12.0 (Owner), 1; B. H. Chaney’s Star Lass, 11.2 (Mr. A. O'Driscoll), 2; J. Cole’s Dougall, 1110 (Mr. A. Street), 3. Also started: Rapanui 12.3, Tirimoana 11.12, Rongonui 11.10, Utiku 11.8. Rua drew away after landing over the last jump, and won by two lengths. Mr. Matthews received a great reception on returning to scale, as Rua fell at the first fence, but his gentleman rider retained hold of the reins and was as quickly in the saddle again as the horse was to get up, subsequently making up a lot of ground, and winning as above. Time, 4min. 59 4-ssec. OPEN HACK HANDICAP. Five furlongs.—R. J. Matthews’ Dr. Shimose, 9.2 (Mr. H. Matthews), 1; J. George’s Durability, 9.5 (E. George), 2; H. Eva’s Highden, 8.7 (D. Cardie), 3. LADIES’ BRACELET STEEPLECHASE. About two miles.—Mr. Wilkie’s Cloudy Morn, 12.3 (Mr. J. Wilkie), 1; Miss M. Sole’s Tokomaru, 11.10 (Mr. P. Sole), 2; Miss E. Abbott’s Flying Cloud, 11.6 (Mr. F. Higginson), 3. Half a length only separated the placed horses at the finish. Time, 4min. 46sec. OPEN HACK HANDICAP. Six furlongs.—R. J. Matthews’ Dr. Shimose, 9.10 (Mr. H. Matthews), 1; H. Eva’s Bismarck, 7.11 (Mr. J. Eva), 2; R. Barlow’s Commonwealth, 8.0 (Mr. A. Russell), 3. Also started: Nero 8.10, Sylvia Park 8.3, Forward 7.12. Dr. Shimose got up just in time to win by a neck.
