TRAINING NOTES.

SATURDAY. F. Macmanemin was again the early bird, but in consequence of a heavy fog and mist very little could be seen before breakfast. Ngapuka had slightly the best of Scotty over the seven furlong course on the grass, and Turbine sprinted half a mile. Wauchope and Hohungatahi (separately) spurted four furlongs. Blue Garment and Coromandel hopped off at the five furlong mark from a standing start, finishing together. Tui Cakobau had Irish well settled at the end of one and a-half miles on the sand, running once round in 2.3 1-5. Censure and Maheno spurted. After the breakfast interval Madam Soult was slightly ahead of Starboard in a half-mile scamper in 52sec. Santa Rosa left Waimangu and Sir Artegal out in the cold in a mile spin on the sand in 1.46 1-5. Zinnia was too smart for Flying Soult for five furlongs on the sand in 1.7 4-5, a mate bringing them home. Dainty, alone, took 55sec. to negotiate half a mile, which distance Grenadier got over in 51 3-5. Advocate made a good finish with Epsom

Lass for three-quarters of a mile in 1.21 on the sand, Rosavere being beaten off. Leo led Reservoir and Creusot over the hurdles on the course proper for about 10% furlongs; the trio finished in this order, running round in 2.24. Tarina and Miscast galloped the last four of five furlongs in 53 l-ssec. Tattoo led Cymri at the end of six furlongs, the last five furlongs in 1.10 2-5. It was a good finish between Newtown and Bully on the course proper, over the hurdles, the round taking 2.19 1-5. Kremlin held Urania for a circle on the sand in 2.1. Miss Advance and Michaeloff, with Escamillo in the rear, had a ding-dong tussle at the end of seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5., and Tamainupo and All’s Well got over six furlongs in 1.19 on the sand. Waipu and Kairoma, with Carlyle to assist, galloped a round over the schooling hurdles on the course proper, the former having all the best of the gallop, running the circuit in 2.26 1-5. Castle Blaney had all the best of Carmania from the four furlong post in 53sec. Foremost slipped over the half mile in company with Silent in the good time of 51 4-ssec., Silent taking 53sec. Lord Rosebery beat Waihuka at the end of a mile in 1.50, and Waihekau ran round the sand in 2.10. First Gun and Cuiragno did a circle in 2.6 1-5, and Warden jumped a few hurdles nicely. Wanakau jumped the steeplechase jumps. Jack Pot, looking bright and muscular, did a couple of rounds at three-quarter pace. The Heathen jumped the small sticks alone. Mangapapa had a slight advantage of The Stroller on the course proper over the hurdles. Capitol, Sol, Nestator, and Red McGregor started at the sod wall and jumped the water jump, stone wall and the old water jump, where Nestator baulked and brought Red McGregor to grief. The others waited and went over the hill, making no further mistakes, and finished as above. Red McGregor took no further part in the contest.

Kiatere, Le Beau, Armagn, and another gave a splendid exhibition of jumping over the same course, finishing as above in 2.55. Te Kainui and Te Arai got safely round the big country, but did not impress the spectators very much. Don Hannibal cantered round to the five furlong post and ran home in 1.8 2-5. Irish Rifle, Belario, Norma, Ben Jonson, Imprimus, Luminator, Dawn, Oxton, and others also worked. TUESDAY. Before breakfast a heavy fog prevented the onlookers from timing the gallops, as all the posts were obscured. Maheno and Rimlock galloped about seven furlongs together, and Scotty led Ngapuka home over a similar distance. Censure galloped a mile at top, and Turbine and Dogger Bank (separately) sprinted a few furlongs. Grenadier galloped five furlongs at top, finishing well. Coromandel and Blue Garment sprinted. Irish, with Carlyle and Armagh at different stages galloped twice round the sand in 4.14. Wauchope ran a mile on the sand in 1.52, while his stable mate, Hohungatahi, spurted.

After breakfast Santa Rosa settled Waimangu’s chance over seven furlongs in 1.31, and Starboard slipped away from the five furlong post in 1.8 4-5. Escamillo alone got to the end of six furlongs in 1.21 3-5. Advocate finished too well for Epsom Lass at the end of three-quarters of a mile in 1.19 3-5. First Gun was in front of Miscast over a similar journey in 1.20 3-5. Zinnia, from a standing start, easily beat Flying Soult from the five furlong mark in 1.8. Dawn was ahead of Oxton in a seven furlong bout in 1.35 1-5. Reservoir surprised everybody by leading Waipu home in a circle in 2.1 4-5., while Tamainupo slipped away from the six furlong post, finishing in 1.22. Aimwell easily settled Miss Advance in a short sprint. Belario, Kairoma. and Waione galloped a round over the battens on the course proper, Kairoma striking the second hurdle and pulling up lame. The round took 2.21 1-5. Tarina scampered over half a mile in 52 4-ssec.

Kremlin finished too strong for Urania in a circuit in 1.57 3-5. Dainty, Sir

Artegal, and Bully finished together at the end of seven furlongs in 1.35. Tattoo and Cymri galloped about seven furlongs in company in 1.34 4-5, and Newtown easily held Cuiragno in a round in 1.59 3-5. Delegate and Sedition ran the last six of seven furlongs in 1.22. Creusot. did a couple of rounds at half-pace. Lord Rosebery led Waihuka home over seven furlongs in 1.35 3-5, and Durability had a flutter over five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. Foremost, alone, finished well in a short sprint, and Irish Rifle, not looking for time, left six furlongs behind in 1.24 3-5. Norma ran away from Silent in a four furlong flutter in 52sec. The Heathen, alone, with weight in the saddle, got to the end of nine furlongs in 2.3 4-5. Ben Jonson, looking well, jumped a few hurdles on the course proper. Noteorini also jumped a few hurdles, and then did a solid round, finishing; strongly. Madam Soult sprinted. Capitol, Red McGregor, and another finished in this order over the steeplechase proper.

Le Beau and Kiatere gave a finished display of jumping over the same course; Te Arai assisted. Mawhiti, Nestator, and a mate went over the big country. Nestator fell at the double and took no further part in the gallop. The others finished without any mishap.
