NEW TAKAPUNA HOTEL.
It is stated that Mr. A. Raynes has purchased Mr. P. M. Hansen’s residence at Takapuna, and plans are being prepared to convert it into a first-class seaside hotel. Arrangements have been made for the necessary application to the Licensing Bench at the next sitting for a transfer of the license from the old site to the new in the name of Mr. Raynes. Some 20 additional bedrooms will be built on to Mr. Hansen’s residence, and a new entrance, with a large hall and office will be provided, and will form the connection between the old and new
buildings. Refreshment rooms will be erected some distance from the hotel, overlooking the gardens and harbour. The grounds attached to Mr. Hansen’s residence, which have a frontage of 400 feet to the main road, will be left intact, though it is proposed to add croquet and tennis lawns and a bowling green. It is intended to call the new hotel the “ Mon Desir Hotel,” after the name of the estate. It is estimated that the scheme will cost £lO,OOO.
