AQUATICS.

The sculling match for the world’s championship between Dick Arnst and Wm. Webb takes place on June 22 at Wanganui, and as both men are reported to be training solidly, the contest should be a very exciting one. Many, however, consider that Arnst will win by a bigger margin than he did on the last occasion, but as Webb is a distinctly improved man since the last match between the pair, this remains to be proved.

Fired by Arnst’s success, Frank Hagney, the champion road rider, is seeking to emulate the New Zealander’s sculling deeds. He had his first trial in an outrigger recently, and for a start he was. about as much at home as an elephant in a soup plate. However, he soon was able to get his tremendous leg and arm power into play, and although he was apparently trying to touch bottom with the blades of his sculls, he made good pace. Now he promises to develop into a finished sculler, and his supporters are already prophesying big things for him. They have matched him with young Felton for £5O a-side, over the championship course, and the event will come off in a. couple of months’ time.
