THE “TEETOTAL BEAST.”
The brilliant essayist, Gilbert Chesterton, the most powerful essayist m English to-day, wrote this:—“ The teetotaler has chosen a most unfortunate phrase ,or the! drunkard when he says that the drunkard is making a bean oi himself. The man who drinks excessively makes a devil of himself, but nothing connected with a human and artistic thing like wine can bring one nearer to the brute life of nature.. The only man who is, in the exact and literal sense of the words, making a beast of himself, is the teetotaler.” And not only do they make beasts of themselves, but thej- are engaged in a campaign of propaganda with the object of inducing the world to join the ranks of the bovine and the equine genus.
