BRITISH BEER EXPORTS.
“ The Licensed Victuallers Gazette and Hotel Courier” notices a decline in the export trade to Australia for the month of February, the Commonwealth only taking, 6,838 barrels of beer and ale valued at £23,251, as compared with 8,904 in February, 1908, of the value of £30,775. The trade with the United States and India has been well maintained, the former taking 6,781 barrels, as compared with 6,767, and the latter 8,073, as against 8,510. Orders from the West Indies have increased from 1,801 barrels, valued at £6,619, to 2,159, of the value of £8,321, and Egypt has taken rather more, namely, 1,399 barrels. The demand from British South Africa has fallen from 630 to 382 barrels, and New Zealand has taken only 549, as against 753. Shipments to Ceylon have decreased from 150 to 96, while those to the Straits Settlements have increased from 784 to 934. “ Other Countries” —that is countries unenumerated — figure for 16,300 barrels, as against 18,543. Altogether the shipments of
beer and ale last month amounted to 43,511 barrels, valued at £132,556, which compares with 48,233, of the value of £148,289, in February, 1908.
