TRAINING METHODS IN ARGEN TINE.

An English trainer, recently interviewed on training methods in the Argentine, said:—“ The Argentine trainer adopts different methods from those used by other trainers in other countries. Ihave noticed there, for instance, that they gallop the horses twice a day, and the anmal gets little rest during the day, yet the horses always look well and run strongly. Also the lads who ride them to exercise are much bigger than you see in other countries, and they use no saddles. To my way of thinking, they have the habit of puinng their mounts up too suddenly after a gallop or race, and this habit, in my opinion, is largely responsible for the number of animals to be seen with bad legs. One thing, however, I was impressed with, and that is the general custom here of giving the animal a shower bath immediately after gallop or race, wh ch I think is very good and refreshing for a tired horse, but I was rather surprised to notice on racecourses horses about to take part in a race, after being given a preliminary once round the course, put in a stall until brought out to actually race. It seems to me that this is a bad practice, because the animals are apt to get chilled and stiff before starting. All these customs that I have torched upon differ from the English and American methods of training. Yet in spite of all that may be said to the contrary. I find that the average Argentine trainer is a man that knows his business thoroughly, and what he can achieve has been shown in more than one country, and, after all. that is the best proof.”
