THE N Z.R.A.’s CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA.

Mercer was the rendezvous for thousands of people on Saturday, the lodestone being the big championship regatta. which, run annually under the auspices of the N.Z. Rowing Association. this year had been allotted to Auckland. The course chosen was on the Waikato River, near Mercer, and the page of pictures in this issue gives a good idea what it was like. The officials were: —Executive committee: Messrs. W. G. Mason (chairman). F. Best. A. G. Busby, B. S. Finn, G Huddlestone W- Seale A. M. Wilson, C. T. Edwards. Starter: Mr. J. Maxwell. Judges: Messrs. H.. A. Marrineer and A. J. Farmer. Umpire: Mr. J- Clark. Timekeeper: Mrs. A Kohn. Weighing stewards: Messrs. Best and Busby. Hon. treasurer: Mr. G. H. Reston. Hon. secretary: Mr. W W. Benjamin. The weather was beautifully fine and the water in good order for rowing- The big event was the champion fours, and this resulted, after a splendid race, in a victory for the Waitemata crew. The results were as follows: —

MAIDEN SINGLE SCULLS, one mile. irirst prize £3second, £l. St. George’s P (T. Stone), 1; Auckland N. Falconer). 2. Auckland (Anderson) also Started Stone won by six lengths from Falconer. Time, 4m. 48s.

MAIDEN FOURS (lOst and under■). one mile. —First prize, £9; second, £- 10s. West End (T. Bell bow, W. Davidson 2, A. Bennett 3, W. Massey stroke, 1: Waitemata. 2; St. Georges, 3. Hamilton and North Shore also started. West End won by a length from Waitemata, St. George’s being two lengths away third. Time. 4m. ss. MAIDEN PAIR OARS, one mile. — First prize, £4; second prize, £l. Union Napier (J. Cato bow, T. Ker stroke), 1; Waitemata, 2. Auckland and North Shore also started. Napier won easily by six lengths from Waitemata. Time, 4m. 475.

CHAMPION PAIR OARS, one mile and a-half. —First prize, £l2; second prize, £3. Union, Christchurch (J. Fry. bow, E. O’Brien stroke), 1; Wanganui, 2. Picton. Blenheim, and Napier did not start.

The Union pair, Fry and O’Brien, led from the start, finally winning by 10 lengths. Time, sm. 575. JUNIOR FOURS (lOst and under), one mile and a-half. —First prize, £10; second, £2 10s. West End (A. E. Carlaw bow, S. Haszard 2. J. Kelly 3, T. Blomfield stroke), 1; North Shore, 2; Waitemata, 3. Won by a length and a-half from North Shore, Waitemata being two lengths away thi’d. Time, sm. 555.

CHAMPION SINGLE SCULLS, one mile and a-half. —First prize £10; second, £3. C. E. Stone (St. George’s), 1; G. H. Marshall (Wanganui) 2; E. H. McDonald (St George's), 3 A. Anderson (Wanganui). H. B. Harper (St. George’s). A. Clark (Kopu), and T. Richards (Waitemata), also started. Won by three lengths, Richa’-ds being five lengths away, third, and then followed McDonald. Richards was disqualified for causing a foul. McDonald being awarded third place. Time, 6m. 7s.

YOUTHS’ FOURS, one mile. — First prize, £8; second prize, £2. St- George’s (H. E. Woodroffe bow, T. Duffy 2, K. Aimer 3, F R O’Gorman stroke), 1; Waitemata. 2; No-th Shore, 3 Hamilton also started. Won after a desperate finish by a bare length '.from Waitemata. North Shore being a quarter of a length away third. %

JUNIOR PAIR OARS, one mile. — First prize, £4; second prize, £l. North Shore (G. Seager bow, T. Davis stroke), 1; Auckland, 2; Union (Napier), 3. Waitemata also started. North Shore won by a length and a-half, Auckland just beating Union by a canvas for second place, after a great struggle. Time. 4m. 275.

MAIDEN FOURS (open weights), one mile.—First prize, £l2; second, £3. Waitemata (T. Campbell bow, H. Kershaw 2. A. Endoan 3. B. Becker stroke). 1; West End No. 2.2; West End No. 1. 3. Napier. Whangarei, Hamilton, North Shore, and. St. George’s also started. Won on the post by half a length f om West End No. 2, West End No. 1 being 2ft away third. St. George’s were fourth, less than a length away from the leading boat. Time, 4m. Bs. CHAMPION FOURS, two miles. — First prize, £7O; second prize, £2O; third pize. £lO. Waitemata (A. Andrews bow. J. Parkinson 2. J. Maguire 3. F. Herring, stroke) 1; Blenheim (C. Hegglum bow, W. J. Girlin 2. E. T. Hegglum 3. J. M. Jackson, stroke), 2; Picton (F. Scott bow. W. Godfrey 2, F. Gullery 3. A. Perano stroke), 3. Napier. Wanganui, and Clifton also started. A very exciting finish, the local crew winning by half a length, Picton being two lengths away, third. Time, Bm. Is.

MAIDEN DOUBLE SCULLS, one mile. —First prize. £4: second, £l. North Shore (S. Marshall bow. W. Logan stroke), 1; Auckland. 2: Waitemata, 3. Only starters. Won by four lengths. Time, 4m. 395.

CHAMPION DOUBLE. SCULLS, one mile and a-half.—First prize. £l2; second, £3. Union. Christchurch (E. O’Brien bow. J. Fry stroke). 1; Wanganui (G. H. Marshall bow, A. S. C. Anderson stroke). 2; North Shore (W. Logan bow, W Oliver stroke), 3. Wellington and St. George’s also started. Won bv two lengths from Wanganui, who beat North Shore by two feet. Time, 6m. 10s. JUNIOR FOURS (open weights), one mile and a-half.—First prize, £l2; second, £3. Ngaruawahia (E. Quintal bow. R. Fuller 2, H. Henderson 3, W Wilson stroke). 1; West End No. 2.2; Waitemata, 3. West End No. 1 and North Shore also started. Ngaruawahia won from West End No. 2 by two lengths and a-half. Waitemata being three-quar-ters of a length away third. Time. 6m. 9s.
