COMING PRODUCTIONS AT HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.
The star dramatic combination now , r-rearing at His Majesty’s Theatre under the direction of Mr. J. C. Wil- 1 liamson will shortly enter on its. farewell appearances, as the company, has to leave at an early date for the South, en route for Australia, where they have important engagements to fulfil in the large centres of Austra- , Im. Mr. J. C. Williamson having decided on a policy of rapid changes to enable the Auckland theatre-goers to ree Miss Ola Humphrey, Mr. George Titheradge and Mr. Henry Kolker. in lheir respective leading characters in the repertoire, announces a revival of the well-known melodrama “The Silver King,” in which Mr. George Titheradge will appear in his original character of Wilfred Denver. It is now close on twenty years since Mr. Titheradge first appeared in this character, when the piece was originally produced in Australia- Since then
scores of artists who have impersonated characters in this famous play have joined the great majority. The late Wilson Barrett was the original Silver King when the piece first saw light at the Princess in London in 1882, the famous actor’s brother George playing Jaikes. Miss Eastlake was the Nellie Denver So great and -instantaneous was ns success, that it was impossible to secure a seat at the box office under twelve weeks in advance.-• The takings broke all records, the play was witnessed by almost all the crowned heads of Europe; it brought an enormous fortune to the clever authors; and it is to-day being played in all parts of the world where the English tongue is spoken. The piece has been commented on by some of the greatest critics of the day “as a clay of wholesome human nature which rings the bell of the heart in true tone.”
“ The Silver King” can only be played for a and will then make room “Village Priest,” a piece which has been a great favourite with Australian and New Zealand audiences, with Mr. Titheradge again in the name part, Mr. Henry Kolker as Jean Torquenie, the wrongly-ac-cused convict and Miss Ola Humphrey as the Comtesse De Tremillion. The last production of the season will be “ Twelfth Night.” The dates of each production will be duly announced in the daily papers.
