THE ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.

A fine sunny day, after the rain, with a nice north-east breeze, made the conditions somewhat ideal for the great aquatic event of the year. The s.s. Atua was flagship, and she was well patronised during the day. The racing proved interesting, although the wind dropping considerably during the afternoon rather spoilt some of the events. The race for Trading Vessels was not so interesting as usual. For .once the Tiri course was abandoned in favour of an inside one, and only four competed, Endeavour winning very easily from Albatross and Vindex. The big yacht race showed Ariki to be the fastest yacht in the harbour, while the new cutter Rawene did wonders among the sec-ond-class division. The particulars were as follows: —

All Ariki’ gradually got away, but there was a splendid -ace all the way between Rainbow and Thelma, only one second separating them at the finish.
