BILLIARDS.
Owing to the clever play of young George Gray, the four-handed match betwen the Grays and the Smiths resulted in an easy win for the former by 9000 to 6459.
It transpires that George Gray’s break, in which he made the world’s record of 435 off the red, amounted to 545, which is, I fancy, the biggest break ever made in Australasia.
In the Burroughes and Watts’ provincial tournament, H. W. Stevenson (scratch) beat T. Reece (rec. 1600) by 10,000 to 7915.
Lindrum and Gray are to play 16,000 up in Melbourne this week, under somewhat similar conditions to their recent game. At the time of writing (says ‘Snooker” in ‘‘The .Referee), Lindrum had not quite decided the points he would concede his recent conqueroi. Probably they wiU be 2000 in 16,000. There is also a doubt as to the balls to be used. The Westralian would prefer bonzoline, but as Gray has always played with ciystalate his manager may ask for that material.
In the Burroughes and Watts’ big London tournament, Inman (receives 2000) easily defeated E. Digg.e (rec. 1000) by 9000 to 6971. During the match Diggle compiled a fine run of 605. Inman’s best effort was 414. Inman is, so far, in premier position in the tournament.
