SALES OF BLOODSTOCK.

GLENORAj PARK YEARLINGS.

On Monday the annual sale of yearlings took place at Glenora Park. A special train convoyed a large number of would-be buyers and others to Papakura, but it was to be noticed that some of the big buyers of .former years were absent. The late Mr. G. G. Stead, who has generally been a big purchaser at the Aulckland Sales, was .much missed, and the late Mrs. Cloomlbe was another big purchaser who was not afraid to go to a big figure when she really fancied anything. 'Round the ring-side were to be found many well-known faces, included among them being Messrs. W. H. Henries, M.P., F. W. Lang, M.P., T. W. Wilford, M.P. (Wellington), Murdoch IMoLean, T. H. Lowry (Hawke’s Bay), Alfred 'Kidd, Geo. Dunnett, A. iDunningham, Donald McKinnon, J. F. Hartland, Ei A. Price, F. Ross (Waikato), Harvey Paterson (Victoria), J. Marshall, J. J. Craig, J. Muir, P. Maxwell, J. Rae, Jas. Hill, G. M. Currie (Wanganui), W. Foss, C. Winder, Walter Davies, Angus W. Gordon, A. FUrness, C. Halstead, Robt. Wynyard. E. W. Alison, Donald McLoed, R. W. Duder, H. T. Gorrie, H. R. McKenzie, John Rowe, and many others. Mr. H. O. Nolan (N.Z. Loan and Mercantile) conducted the sales, but he had hard work extracting bids, although there was some spirited competition for some of the lots. Soult has proved such a success at the stud that it might have been expected that higher prices would have been realised. A fine brown colt by Soult from Lady Musket realised top price, Mr Frank Ross l(Cambrid|ge) having to go to 500 guineas before he obtained possession of the youngster. Mr. Greenwood, of Canterbury, gave 300 igs. for a very shapely brown filly by Soult—Hotcherina, and the sister to Grenadier should 1 prove cheap at the price. A very nice broiwn colt went to Mr. Johnson for 275 gs.. this being a. son of Soult and

Corusa. Mr. Casey got a very handsome colt by Gluten—Gold Web, who on looks should be a bargain at the 105 guineas he realised. Altogether the thirteen yearlings realised 2,100 guineas, or an average of 161% guineas each. Subsequently a number of other lots were submitted, particulars of which will be found below:— YEARLINGS. Master Clements, aged, by St. Clements, Mr. A. Phillips 16 CAMBRIA PARK YEARLINGS. The special train then returned to Papatoetoe, the visitors making their way across to the Cambria Park Stud, their numbers having been augmented by late arrivals by the ordinary train. After refreshments had been partaken of, Mr. Nolan mounted the rostrum, the first lots put up being those in the estate of the late Mrs. Coombe. Master Soult was first led into the ring, and bidding opened at 750 guineas, and rapidly ran up to 1200 guineas, when it stopped. ' As the reserve was 2000 guineas the whole of the lots—viz., Master Soult, Elysian, Tetrazzini, First Gun, and Cuiragno—were withdrawn. The Cambria Park yearlings were then submitted, but perhaps owing to the fact that the chief sire, Obligado. has not as yet had a chance to prove his value, the prices realised were very much less than might have been expected from the appearance of the colts. The- highest price, 300 guineas, was given by Mr. A. Gordon for a very handsome filly by iSoult from Miss Annie. On looks alone the gem of the collection was a chestnut colt by Obligado from Crecy, who should prove a bargain at 180 gs., which was all Mr. Macmanemin gave for her. A colt by Obligado' from Gwennie, and a colt by the same sire from Lute, were almost given away at 50 guineas and 55 guineas respectively, and it will be strange if they do not prove bargains of the sale ring. Altogether the sixteen yearlings realised 1130 guineas, or a little over 70 guineas each. The particulars are as follows:— YEARLINGS. Gns. Bay colt, by Eton —Cyrenienne, Mr. C.
