ATHLETICS.

Marathon races are very popular just now, and the Auckland A.A.C. intends holding one over a 15-mile course next month.

In a match in America between Hayes, winner of the Marathon race, and Dorando, who was first home, but was disqualified, the latter won by 60 yards.

Mr. R. Coombes, president of the A.A.A. of Australasia, will leave Sydney next Saturday for Wellington.

The centres affiliated to the N.Z.A.A. Association have decided that the forthcoming conference convened in connection with athletic government will be held at Christchurch. The date

will be fixed on receipt of a reply from the Auckland centre. Wellington and the southern centres favour holding the conference on December 5, and this date will probably be selected unless Auckland centre requires time to send delegates from this city.
