DEATH OF A GREAT DRAMATIST.

The news of the death of Victorien Sardou was partly expected, for the great French dramatist was known to have been in failing health for some time, while at his advanced age (77) he was not able to fight against

sickness. His works will live for very many years, for such plays as “La Tosca,” “ Fedora,” “Divorcons,” “Madame Sans Gene,” “ Theodora,” etc., do not quickly sink into obscurity. He had been writing for the stage successfully since 1857, but, strange to say, his first comedy, produced some few years before, was a pronounced failure. He was a member of the Legion of Honour and French Academy. His p’ace will be hard to fill.
