A FATAL SMASH.

A sad fatality marred the motor racing on the Brooklands track m a 100mile race for the O’Gorman Trophy, given by Mr. Mervyn O’Gorman. Something went wrong with Mr. ±l.

Burford’s 76 h.p. Mercedes car, and while travelling at a speed of 100 miles an hour, it dashed up the side of the track, and striking the bridge over a neighbouring river, hurled the driver (M. A. Lane) and the accompanying mechanic (H. Burke) 100 feet through the air, while itself was smashed to fragments. Burke was killed on the spot, but Lane is said to be doing favourably.
