PROGRAMME FOR THE SPECIAL “FLEET WEEK” RACE MEETING.

The programme for the special race meeting to be given at Ellerslie during the visit to Auckland of the American battleships was decided on at a committee meeting last night. Six events will be run, these being the Welcome Hurdle Race of 125sovs, one mile and a-half; the Admirals’ Handicap of llOsovs, five furlongs; the Roosevelt Handicap of 300sovs, one mile; the Sperry Steeplechase of 250 sovs, three miles; the Connecticut Steeplechase (for Hunters) of 150 sovs, two and a-half miles; and the Fleet Handicap of 200sovs, five furlongs. This is a capital programme, and reflects great credit on the committee which compiled it, and it should draw plenty of entries. Mr. O’Connor will act as starter, Mr. Lusk as judge, while Mr. R. Wynyard will do the handicapping. Bookmakers will be charged a fee of £2O for licenses to bet, with 10s for a clerk. Mr. King will do the catering, and the usual bar licenses will be obtained. Particulars as to time of closing entries, etc., will be given in our next issue. The first step has thus been taken in what should prove a highly successful meeting, and one which •ur-visitors should much enjoy.
