THE TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB’S WINTER MEETING.
COMMENCES ON SATURDAY. On Saturday next the Hags will be flying at Takapuna when the Winter Meeting will be inaugurated, and this will be concluded on Monday, seven events being decided each day. If no rain falls between this an Saturday the course will be in fine order, and the enclosures looking their best. As usual the Devonport Ferry Company will have extra steamers on the run, these leaving every few minutes during the “rush” hours. On the other side there will be a perfect army of vehicles to convey visitors to the course. A steeplechase meeting is always popular, and at Takapuna there are a fine number of jumping events scattered through the programme. Given a fine day it may therefore be safely reckoned that a very large number of sportsmen will journey across to the marine suburb to assist at the fixture. Mr R. Wynyard, the popular secretary, is making complete arrangements for the comfort of visitors, and there are very few who can give points to him in the method of handling a race meeting. The acceptances are very satisfactory, and everything points to some capital sport. A number of bookmakers have been licensed at a fee of £lO per day, with an extra 10s foi' a clerk.
