OBITUARY.

Mr Wm. Burton, an o’d and esteemed resident of the Thames, died on Friday morning, at his residence, Mackay-street, after an illness of several weeks. Mr Burton resided at the Thames from the very early days of the field, giving up a seafaring life which he had followed up to that time, to take up the business of hotelkeeping. He became the owner and landlord of the Junction Hotel, which he conducted until recent years, when he leased the hotel, and retired from business. Since then he had taken an active part in local politics, having been for some time a member of the Borough Council and. other local bodies. He had also been closely associated with the mining industry, and occupied a seat on the Drainage Board, while being a director of several companies at the time of his death. The deceased leaves a widow, the daughter of Mr Allan Mclntyre. The late Mr Burton was well known both at Thames and Auckland.
