FLORIDA RACING.

At the Florida Beach racing, a 60 h.p. Benz (L. Bergdoll driver) won the 125 miles race in lhr 53min 30 2-ssec (averaging 66.08 miles per hour). Owing to the late start, the Automobile Club of America’s Cup Race was reduced in distance from 288 miles to 256 miles, but Cedrino’s 60 h.p. FiatCyclone won in 3hr 21min 27 2-ssec. R. G. Kelsey’s 50 h.p., Christie being second. Cedrina went on, and established a new 300 miles record of shr 53min 4sec (averaging 77 miles per hour). Cedrino also won the Minneapolis Trophy, no time or distance stated. In a mile time trial, the Fiat 35sec. (102.25 mi’es per hour), Bernin’s Renault doing 39 l-ssec. (91.83 miles per hour). In a 100 miles record attempt, Bernin’s Renault did lhr 12min 56 l-ssec. as against Earp’s previous record of lhr 15min 40 2-ssec. in a 60 h.p. Napier. This is an American, but not a world’s record, as F. Newton, in a Napier at Brooklands, recently did lhr lOmin 20.315ec. Bernin’s average was 82.19 miles per hour. On the last day of the meeting, Cedrino, on his 60 h.p. Fiat car, drove a mile, with a flying start, in 34 4-ssec. This is at the rate of 103% miles an hour.

Mr. A. Cleave left Auckland on Sunday for the Waikato on his 15 h.p. Darracq. It may safely be asserted that this car has been over worse roads, and has had more rough work to accomplish than any car running in the Dominion to-day, and it speaks volumes for the good workmanship that it has come through so many extremely severe tests without serious mishaps.

A fully-equipped automatic transport section has lately been added to the Army Service Corps detachment at Aidershot, and selected officers and men are being carefully trained for duty with it. Another activity in the same direction takes the form of establishing the Army Motor Reserve, which already has a strength of about 150, including private cars, placed at the disposal of the authorities.
