A.R.U. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

A meeting of the Management Committee was held last week, Mr. M. J. Sheahan (chairman) presiding. The following were present: —Messrs. C. Stichbury, S. W. Somerville, F. S. Murray, and V. Langsford (secretary). It was decided to open the season with the senior grade on May 2, the junior grades to open a week later, on May 9. Entries for the senior grade closed yesterday, and all junior grade entries on May 6. The question of the appointment of a sub-committee to manage junior matches was deferred. A letter of thanks was received from the Referees’ Association for the manner in which their requests had been met, and also for the union’s assistance during the recent New Zealand Referees’ Conference. Mr. Angus Campbell was appointed to represent the Referees’ Association on the subcommittee to appoint referees for Saturday’s matches. Messrs. Sheahan and Stichbury were appointed to act in conjunction with Mr. A. Campbell on behalf of the Rugby Union. Entries for the Senior Grades closed last night. In Sydney the Rugby league have adopted the method. They are to play in Sydney on May 2 and 6 against New South Wales, and on May 9 against Australia. They will also play two matches against Newcastle, at the Show Ground, Newcastle, these being 15-aside. V * * * The N.S.W. League has definitely decided to send a touring team to England this year. The Northern Union has guaranteed £3OOO. Mr. P. Sheahan has been elected captain of the Marist Bros. Old Boys’ F.C., and Mr. G. Williams, vice-cap-tain. Hamilton Rugby Union’s balance sheet shows a credit of £22 13s 5d on the year. * * - The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union have decided to remove the disqualification of five years imposed on J. Harnett, of the .Epuni Club, three years ago. $ * >|e « H. H. Vassal, the English international, is one of the British team now on board the Athenic. South Island team: Messrs Evans (Canterbury), Harris (Otago), and Galbraith (Southland). New Zealand team: Gallaher, Kelly, and Evans.
