THE GRANDEST OLD GAME OF THEM ALL.
Away with your Bridge and your Ludo, Away with your Whist and your Snap, I don’t give a d for your double Grand Slam, 'Or the joy of the man who shouts ' Nap!” But give me the Cue and the Cushion, The table of green and the ball; And I’ll be content that the night be spent, With the greatest old game of them all ! Oh! the joy of the four-cushion cannon, The carefully accurate pot; And dear, long jenny, the best shot of any, The simple delights of the spot. Let others get on with their hockey, Their cricket, and golf, and football; But my paradise true, is the touch of the Cue, In the finest old game of them all. —“ The Dud.”
